  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: Mankato - The Free Press
Entry Title: Free Press COVID coverage
    Entry Credit: Free Press Staff
Judge Comment: The Free Press probably did the best job in telling the people stories, particularly in the profiles of victims of the virus,
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: Fargo/Moorhead - The Forum
Entry Title: The Forum's Category X entry
    Entry Credit: Forum staff
Judge Comment: Good job taking head-on North Dakota's worst-in-the-nation infection rate during the pandemic.
  • Competition Comment: Lots of good entries. Difficult to judge because each entry was limited to five examples of what must have been scores of reports each newspaper did on local effects of COVID-19. In most entries, I would have preferred to see more reporting of impacts on individual people rather than institutions, which were mostly inconvenienced.
