Judge Comment: Stunning home page layout! The navigation header menu includes everything I'm looking for in a comprehensive news website. The primary menu font is bold and crisp, inviting me to click through the subcategories. I like the visual presentation of the three feature squares in the top slider - it's impactful without being overwhelming. Finally, I appreciate the Staff profile page, believing it's important for the community to meet those who are creating, editing and developing the news content. Congratulations to the staff of the Mac Weekly!

Judge Comment: A visually inviting home page without being overwhelming. I love the "Latest" news scroller at the very top alongside today's date - something that has become an afterthought on many news websites. The featured story slider, along with four secondary static news blocks, provides a snapshot into what's happening at the moment. Easy to navigate and well categorized. I appreciate how simple it is to find comprehensive advertising rates and specs - website monetization is crucial for success. Well done, MSU staff!
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: Tommie Media (University of St. Thomas)
    Entry Title: TommieMedia
Entry Credit: Mia Laube, Emily Haugen
Judge Comment: I appreciate the effort to keep the home page layout simple and concise, while highlighting a podcast and a video at the top... offering multimedia options to entice those looking for more engaging alternatives. News is obviously the priority on this page, with a stunning full width advertising leaderboard just below the fold to command reader attention and drive click thru rates. The navigation menu provides all necessary subcategories with only six headers, pointing the reader where they want to be with a single click. A solid effort by the TommieMedia staff!
