2021 MNA Better Newspaper Contest

Arts & Entertainment Story ( 3,001 to 7,000)Back

  • Place Name: First Place
Contestant Name: New London/Spicer - Lakes Area Review
Entry Title: Spicer's radioactive glass outshines the finest crystal
    Entry Credit: Brett Blocker
Judge Comment: I love it when a feature story tells me about something I didn't have any idea even existed. And then tells the story well. This was well-written, informative, unique and had an appealing, eye-catching design and photography.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: Worthington - The Globe
Entry Title: Worthington local named a finalist in Minnesota Book Awards
    Entry Credit: Leah Ward
Judge Comment: This could have been a routine story, but it feels as if it truly told the story behind the story.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: New London/Spicer - Lakes Area Review
Entry Title: Decoding the secret language of cemetery symbolism
    Entry Credit: Brett Blocker
Judge Comment: Interesting story; the pull-out list of symbols and meanings is a nice bonus to the story. The layout/design could be better, but the writing keeps readers' interest.
  • Competition Comment: There were some really solid entries. And not a lot separated the top four entries.
