  • Place Name: First Place
Contestant Name: The Clarion (Bethel University)
Entry Title: Bethel Clarion May 29 issue published Feb2020
Entry Credit: Josh Towner, Jasmine Johnson, Zach Walker, Thanh Nguyen, Will Jacott
Judge Comment: Full color, professional layout with glorious photographs and relevant infographics to help tell the stories. And let's talk about content volume - 148 pages over three issues covering relevant topics far and wide. The Clarion takes the top step of the podium and should be extremely proud of what they've accomplished.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: ThreeSixty Journalism (University of St. Thomas)
Entry Title: ThreeSixty Journalism September 2019 and Spring 2020
    Entry Credit: ThreeSixty Journalism Staff
Judge Comment: The easy to read layout really draws the reader in, page after page. I especially like the "Contributors" page which provides a name, school and photo of each journalist, enabling a more personal connection between reader and story. Modest advertising from impressive major supporters keeps the focus on the editorial content. ThreeSixty delivers an exceptional product time and again!
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: University Chronicle (SCSU)
Entry Title: Chronicle April 2020 Print Edition
Entry Credit: Caitlyn Jordan, Tony Langfellow, Bethanie Barrios, Tim Speier, Tim Hennagir
Judge Comment: This publication is a classic column newspaper layout, which provides a recognizable and traditional format to convey timely and well-written editorials. COVID was the primary foundation for this 20 page issue, and each story focused on a relevant topic at the college, city and state level that affected all students. On a lighter note, I found the 'Coronavirus Crossword' to be a welcomed distraction from the serious tone of the issue. Kudos to the staff of the university Chronicle!
