  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: Anoka County Union Herald
Entry Title: Anoka County UnionHerald Use of Photography As a Whole
Entry Credit: Jonathan Young, Connor Cummiskey, Paige Kieffer, Patrick Slack, Emilee Wentland
Judge Comment: Paper has some photos with nice moments, and does a good job using a variety of sizes in its layout. The best photo was not always the lede photo, though, and there seems to be a lot of submitted photos or by non-staff members.
  • Competition Comment: A fun category to judge. There was some nice photo work to look at, even if it wasn't always used the way most photographers would like. A number of entries lost ground due to reasons like large amounts of submitted photos, inconsistent use of photos from the front page going into the paper, photos being used to small, or underwhelming photos from moments with clear potential.
