  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Duluth News Tribune
    Entry Title: Mix Cosmetiques
Entry Credit: Jane Danielson, Katie Hastings
Judge Comment: This ad is very visually appealing with colors that are appropriate and relevant to the ad subject. The 3 colors are used cohesively throughout the ad in a way that's aesthetic perfection, however they are also used in a creative and very unique manner throughout the ad space (makeup brush strokes behind headlines/contact info, makeup colors in 3 circular call outs, etc). Overall, this will certainly increase the effectiveness of the ad and draw readers to take action. Very well done and incredibly creative/unique!
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Brainerd Dispatch
    Entry Title: Northland Arboretum
Entry Credit: Jill Wasson, Sue Stark
Judge Comment: This ad provides a nice overall appearance due to the cohesive, yet differentiated, use of color throughout the 2 pages. Color use was made effective by utilizing in key points, headlines, etc. within the ad copy to make the overall ad, as well as prominent messaging within, pop for the reader. Colors match the ad subject/theme of nature throughout the entire 2 pages, but again, are creatively used throughout as to not make this content-heavy ad easy to breeze past for readers. The disbursement of "wood" themed content and "black" themed content, along with the headline/background colors, allow for this to be a fun and desirable read to their subscribers. Very well done, you can tell this took a lot of time, effort and consideration!

The colors used certainly contributed to the effectiveness of the ad and draw eyeballs with their simple, yet stunning, placement. Very well done!
