Judge Comment: Two wrongs don't make a right, but this photo is spot on. It's nice to see a photo with such intensity. You can see both players' faces and it tells a story of a tough game between athletes. This is an action shot with feeling. Great job.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Forest Lake Times
    Entry Title: Homecoming Heartbreak Throw
    Entry Credit: Hannah Davis
Judge Comment: There is so much going on in this photo. It's composed well with layers to the photo. The receiver in the foreground is waiting for the pass, the ball is sailing through the center of the frame and the action with the quarterback and defense is happening in the back. Not to mention the sky is beautiful. This is a difficult shot to make when it's becoming dusk, but this photographer stopped the action.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: Clarissa - Independent News Herald
    Entry Title: Safe or not?
    Entry Credit: Mason Jambor
Judge Comment: Generally, when covering sports newspapers are focus on prep sports, but this is a reminder that great moments can be just as easily found in youth sports. There is a playfulness to this photo that made me smile. This photo is not only fun and brings joy, but is technically sound.
  • Competition Comment: There were several notable entries in the category, however, I feel some would have been more suited to a feature category. A few of the football photos were tough to choose from.
