2019 MNA Better Newspaper Contest

General Excellence ( 3,001 to 7,000)Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Chaska Herald
    Entry Title: Chaska Herald
    Entry Credit: Chaska Herald
Judge Comment: This was the staff favorite. Good attention to detail and the little things that make the pages pop. While not a fan of stacking ads to the left, they seem to make it work. Excellent photos, cropped and sized well. Overall just a nice read.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Woodbury Bulletin
Entry Title: Woodbury Bulletin General Excellence
    Entry Credit: Bulletin Staff
Judge Comment: Clear second choice. Again, attention to the little things seems to make the difference. Good use of color when available. Nice ads.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: Anoka County Union Herald
Entry Title: Anoka County UnionHerald General Excellence
Entry Credit: Jonathan Young, Connor Cummiskey, Paige Kieffer, Patrick Slack
Judge Comment: Another well done newspaper that made the judging hard. Would like to see more variety in headline sizes and photo sizes.
  • Competition Comment: Lot of great entries. All generally well done. Each newspaper did some things very well. Minnesota definitely had some strong non-daily newspapers!
